How do I Shroom and Gloom heal?
Season, skewer, or roast, then eat to restore HP / Headpoints. Official line: less blocking, more eating.
Shroom and Gloom heal without blocks: season, skewer, or roast, then eat. Soup in the pot is the run-changer. Steam EA 3271280. Verified Sep 2026.
Roast, eat, and why blocking is the wrong instinct.

This Shroom and Gloom heal page is the eat script: season, skewer, or roast, then eat to restore HP / Headpoints — or drop roasted enemies in a pot for soup. Official slogan is Less blocking, more eating. Shroom and Gloom from Team Lazerbeam, published by Devolver Digital, Steam Early Access September 10, 2026 (App 3271280). Verified September 12, 2026.
PC (Windows) · macOS · Steam. Single-player. Combat still starts the chain; Explore still warms the kitchen. Paperboy Fireballs can be fed and create Burning Sensation warmth. Lunch Lady is the cooking / feed / dog kit. Exact soup recipes stay TBA until a versioned UI dump exists. Store: Steam listing. Dual piles: double deckbuilder.

You Shroom and Gloom heal by turning enemies into food, not by stacking a shield. Official copy: season, skewer, or roast, then eat to restore health. Public materials also name the meter Headpoints (current and max). Treat Headpoints as the HP you chew back; if your build labels it Health, the loop is the same. Combat plays the roast. Explore keeps you warm enough to reach the next fight. Foresight may trigger on feed or low Headpoints — that is a passive, not a third chew card. See Foresight.
Community footage shows leftover cards such as Toasty (often heal-and-consume after a fatal roast) and in-hand food that costs no energy. Those names and numbers are playthrough-observed — read the tooltip. Absorb-style cards that cancel small hit instances exist in the same community talk; they are not a replacement for eat. After this section you should refuse a block-first draft, then we walk the cook verbs.

This page writes HP / Headpoints together on purpose. Steam-facing copy says restore health; databases and tooltips often say Headpoints. Do not invent a second hidden meter. Max Headpoints can grow from eat-triggers (community: “if you eat, plus max HP”) — mark exact caps TBA.
Boss tells live on bosses. Dual-deck split lives on double deckbuilder. Class kits live on characters. First-run order lives on beginner guide. Here we only teach chew, soup, and the two named kitchens.
Three prep verbs, one chew. Season tags an enemy (community: sprinkle on one or all; “special effects” — exact status names TBA). Skewer is the official middle verb; treat it as a prep/kill line you confirm on the card, not a recipe we invented. Roast is the cook-kill that public wikis tie to Fatal / Toasty leftovers. Eat spends the leftover (or a food card) to restore Headpoints. Skip roast and you are chewing raw intent with worse timing. Skip eat and the leftover is just clutter.
Fatal roast creating Toasty, Bite-style “deal then heal,” and “if you eat, this card grows” are all community-observed Combat loops. They prove the official chain, they do not publish a damage table. Grow still happens on card list — eating can be the trigger that stamps the growth.
Prep (season/skewer) → roast while the foe still exists → eat when Headpoints actually dropped. Eating at full just to trigger a growth rider is a real choice, not the beginner default. Community footage banks toasties through a boss wind-up, then chews to refill — that is the same chain, delayed.
Feed shows up on Explore and on some Combat leftovers: feed a pet, a fire, a hungry object, or Fireballs. Feed can heal, draw, or create Burning Sensation. It is not a substitute for roast. If the card says feed or heal, pick the one that matches the next room, then read Lunch Lady before you assume every class wants the dog.
Official extra layer: roasted enemies go in a pot and become soup that can change the run. That is the soup rule. Exact ingredients, boil time, and a ranked cookbook are TBA. Playthroughs name pots and bowls in passing — watery soup, spicy soup, endless soup, party soup — as UI labels during one run. This wiki will not turn those names into a recipe table. If your pot lists inputs, follow the pot, then come back and we version it.
Soup is for when you can spare roasted bodies and still hold a chew. A pot at low Headpoints with empty pockets is a vanity project. A pot after a roast-heavy room, with one leftover still in hand, is how soup is supposed to steal the next fight. Need Some More / First Course style quests (named kills, not recipes) live on quests.

No “three Shiitanke plus one toast = spicy.” No hidden 1.0 cookbook. Community names above are labels seen in a run, not verified formulas. If a later patch ships a recipe screen, this page will cite that screen. Until then, soup = roasted enemies in a pot, effect TBA per bowl.
Eat now if Headpoints will not survive the next swing. Soup if Headpoints are stable and the pot is already in the room. Bank a Toasty if a boss is one room away and the leftover still heals. That fork is the next table — do not cook because the word soup ranks.
Paperboy (starter) publicly runs Fireballs, Burning Sensation, and camp/warmth. Fireballs can be fed or used to heal, and feeding them is the documented path into Burning Sensation, which raises Warmth. Warmth is Explore insurance against gloomy rooms — not a Combat block. You still roast in the fight; Fireballs are a portable kitchen for the walk. Uses counts on Fireballs (community: a finite-use stack) stay TBA-verify.
Lunch Lady is the cooking / feed / dog class. Official EA list includes her as a playable unlock. Public notes: kitchen theme, feed synergies, a pet dog, feast language. Do not paste a full starter deck here. Do not assume every soup pot is hers. Her page is characters; quests that unlock kits are quests. Other classes still eat — they just do not get her dog as a default feed target.

Campfires, lingering warmth cards, and Burning Sensation keep Explore safe. Soup changes a fight or a resource line. Mixing them into one “food meter” is how a Paperboy run skips camp and then wonders why hazards chew Headpoints the pot never refunds.
Paperboy already has fire. Lunch Lady already has feed/dog. Everyone else still seasons, roasts, and eats — they just should not wait for a Lunch Lady unlock to learn the official chain. Activist, Janitor, and Concerned Parent kitchens stay TBA on this page.
Work the checklist on loop one. The table is the fork when Headpoints, the pot, and a feed target all want the same leftover. This is the roast / soup / eat decision, not a recipe book.
| If you must pick one | Do this | Do not do this |
|---|---|---|
| Eat vs bank | Eat if Headpoints are the next lethal | Chew the last leftover at full just to empty the hand |
| Roast vs skip | Roast so a leftover exists | Slash-only and hope a block card appears |
| Soup vs eat now | Pot when stable and roasted bodies are spare | Start soup at 2 Headpoints with empty pockets |
| Feed vs eat | Feed Fireballs / dog when the card says feed and you want warmth or pet value | Feed the last heal into a fire you do not need |
| Paperboy vs Lunch Lady | Use the kit you unlocked | Wait for Lunch Lady to learn season-roast-eat |
| Shop vs heal (community) | Keep a chew if food is also the wallet | Sell the last edible because Combat “looked fine” |
Official design is less blocking, more eating. A draft that hunts shields will starve roast, starve soup, and starve Fireball feeds. Community footage is explicit: you take hits, then you chew; absorb-style cancels are instance checks, not a growing wall. Shops that spend food as currency (community) make the same point — the heal pile is the economy. Blocking as a habit also ignores Explore warmth, which is how hazards finish a “safe” Combat stack.
No leftover after a kill means no eat. No roast means no pot. No warmth means the next room taxes Headpoints the kitchen never earned. Eating at full with no growth rider wastes a consume. Soup without a remaining chew is a cutscene before a wipe. Boss rooms on bosses still want this chain — including the joke that you can eat the last problem alive if the cards line up. That is a Combat outcome, not a block outcome.
Publishing a spicy-soup formula from one run is how a heal guide becomes fanfic. Mark TBA. Toasty heal values, Fireball use counts, and camp rest penalties stay labeled community. Patch talk belongs on Discord. Durable rule: season / skewer / roast / eat, soup from roasted enemies, Fireballs feed into Burning Sensation, Lunch Lady is feed/dog, blocking is the wrong instinct.
Next: take soup and roast rules into named fights on bosses.
Then keep Combat versus Explore honest on double deckbuilder and pick Lunch Lady or Paperboy on characters.
Season, skewer, or roast, then eat to restore HP / Headpoints. Official line: less blocking, more eating.
Roasted enemies go in a pot and become soup that can change the run. Exact recipes are TBA — follow the pot UI.
Community/playthrough name for a leftover after fatal roast (often heal + consume). Verify the tooltip. The official verbs remain season, skewer, roast, eat.
They can be fed or used to heal; feeding is the documented path into Burning Sensation warmth. Use counts TBA-verify.
Cooking, feed, and a pet dog. She is an unlock kit, not a requirement to eat. See characters.
Not as the main plan. Absorb-style cards (community) cancel small instances; they do not replace roast and eat.
Public materials use Headpoints for the health meter. This page treats them as the same chew target. Do not invent a second bar.
No. Paid Steam Early Access. Code DMs are scams.
